The course is included in the Two-year master's programme Urban Studies.

Course contents

The course is research preparatory and deepens and develops the theoretical and methodological knowledge and generic skills that the student has acquired within the master's programme Urban Studies.

The course facilitates active involvement in research projects connected to the Department of Urban Studies. Supervision is provided by researchers active in the chosen research projects.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course, the student shall:

Knowledge and understanding

1. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how it is to work practically with research

Skills and abilities

2. demonstrate the ability to apply their theoretical knowledge in the main field of study Urban Studies in practical research work

3. demonstrate an ability to present a relevant, self-selected theme or issue related to the main field of study Urban Studies

4. independently prepare and present a written report of the experiences gained from the research internship

Judgement and approach

5. independently identify and formulate possible research problems and the possible need for further education

6. display an ability to critically value their own skills and to identify existing relevant areas of potential work within the main field of study Urban Studies

7. identify relevant areas of potential work within the main field of study Urban Studies

Learning activities

Independent literature studies, supervision, seminars and active research work.

Assessment

The students learning outcomes (1-7) of the course will be assessed by a written report (grading scale UG)

Course literature

Course literature is decided in joint consultation with supervisor and examiner.

Course evaluation

Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. The University will compile and summarise the results of course evaluations. The University will also inform participants of the results and any decisions relating to measures taken in response to the course evaluations. The results will be made available to the students (HF 1:14).

Interim rules

If a course is no longer offered, or has undergone significant changes, the students must be offered two opportunities for re-examination based on the syllabus that applied at the time of registration, for a period of one year after the changes have been implemented.

Additional information

If a student has a Learning support decision, the examiner has the right to provide the student with an adapted test, or to allow the student to take the exam in a different format.
