Entry requirements
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent (at least 180 credits) in computer science or related subject areas. Examples of such subject areas include informatics, interaction design, information systems, computer- and information science, human-computer interaction, and media technology.
- At least 15 credits in programming, system development or the equivalent.
- The equivalent of English 6 at Swedish upper secondary level.

Organisation
The student deepens his or her knowledge within computer science with a focus on innovation for change in a digital society. Furthermore, the student deepens his or her knowledge and skills regarding methods used in research and development in the field. The program combines theoretical understanding with a practical application by working with applied projects during the study period.
The program focuses on modern and emerging technologies in computer science and the student develops his or her ability to use appropriate tools and methods for innovation and change work in a digital society. This at the same time as social, economic and ecological aspects are analyzed and taken into account. After completing the education, the student is expected to be well prepared to understand, initiate, evaluate and manage different types of innovations in a digital context in their future professional careers.

During the third semester the students are to study 15 credits elective courses.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
In order to complete a master’s degree in Computer Science the student must:
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of computer science, incorporating broad knowledge within the field as well as substantial, specialised knowledge within certain aspects of innovation in a digital society, and also demonstrate in-depth insight into relevant research and development work; and
- demonstrate in-depth knowledge of methodologies within computer science.
Competencies and skills
In order to complete master’s degree in Computer Science the student must:
- demonstrate the ability to critically and systematically integrate knowledge and to analyse, assess and handle complex phenomena, issues and situations, even with limited information;
- demonstrate the ability to critically, independently and creatively identify and formulate questions, to plan and execute – using appropriate methods – advanced assignments within specific deadlines and thus contribute to the development of knowledge, and to evaluate such work;
- demonstrate the ability in both national and international settings to orally and in writing clearly describe and discuss his/her conclusions and the knowledge and arguments on which these are based, in dialogue with different groups; and
- demonstrate the skills that are required to take part in research and development work or for independent work in other qualified activities.
Evaluation and approach
In order to complete a master’s degree in Computer Science the student will:
- demonstrate the ability within computer science to make assessments in relation to relevant scientific, social and ethical aspects, as well as demonstrating awareness of ethical issues in research and development work,
- demonstrate insight into the opportunities and limitations of science and innovation, their role in society and the human responsibility for how this is used, and
- demonstrate the ability to identify their own need for further knowledge and to take responsibility for their own knowledge development.
Degree
Master's Degree (120 credits)
Master's degree with a major in Computer Science (120 credits).
Master of Science in Computer Science (120 credits).
A Master of Science in Computer Science is achieved after the student has completed course requirements corresponding to 120 credits, of which at least 60 credits with progression within the main subject area computer science, and within the framework of the course requirements have completed an independent work (master thesis) of at least 30 credits within the main subject area. All compulsory courses within the programme must be completed with at least a passing grade. In addition, the student must have completed a bachelor’s degree of at least 180 credits (or the equivalent qualification completed abroad)
