Course contents

The course content is in the form of a supervised project. Supervision is carried out on an individual as well as a group basis and includes seminar meetings.

Learning outcomes

After finishing the course, the student shall:
• display an ability to integrate knowledge critically and systematically, and to analyse, evaluate and handle complex issues and situations, even when in possession of limited information;
• display an ability to independently postulate the thesis on basis of diverse scientific perspectives; as well as to identify the complexity of the issue and work, in line with strict scientific research procedure;
• demonstrate their acquired knowledge by means of an independent academic thesis that is literate and utilises a consistent and correct referencing system, and shows the ability to analyse and evaluate scientific information and
• display an ability to communicate the results of their own work, and provide constructive criticism on the results of others, both orally and in writing.

Learning activities

The course consists of a 15-credit project work in form of a thesis. The project work is supervised. Supervision is conducted on an individual basis and includes seminar meetings.
During the project work, teachers supervision is provided.
A student who has not finished the project work during the course, or has not received a passing grade on the project work at the end of the course cannot be guaranteed continued supervision.

Assessment

Examination is in the form of a written thesis and a seminar wherein the student opposes another student’s thesis and defends his/her thesis.
Students who do not pass the regular course examinations have the minimum of two re-sit opportunities. Re-sits take the same form as the original exams.

Course literature and other study material

Primary and secondary reading for the master’s thesis (one-year) is selected in cooperation with the supervisor.

Course evaluation

All students are offered an opportunity to give oral or written feedback at the end of the course. The students are also given a possibility to offer feedback through the course council.
