The course forms part of the prerequisite higher education teacher training comprising 15 credits that is organized at Malmö University.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop the ability to design, carry out and evaluate various forms of examination and assessment.
Course contents
The course focuses on assessment and examination as part of learning and teaching in higher education, in relation to the role of the teacher and to the exercise of authority. Theories of examination and assessment are addressed. The course also provides a basis for the participant to develop different forms of examination and assessment.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, the participant will be able to
• describe and justify the choice of different forms of assessment and examination
• establish a plan for assessment and examination within a course (or equivalent) that is in line with the learning objectives
• discuss and problematise selected forms of assessment and examination based on relevant theories
Learning activities
Studies take place both individually and in groups and are based on peer response and review. Learning activities are facilitated by use of Malmö University's learning platform and vary between collaborative seminars, workshops and studies of relevant literature.
Assessment
Paper, 5hp. The course is assessed through a written assignment. The examination requires that the course participant present a plan for assessment with accompanying text showing how the participant has achieved the learning outcomes.
Course literature
Research literature based on specialisation to be chosen in consultation with the course coordinator (700 pages approx.)
Course evaluation
Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. The University will compile and summarise the results of course evaluations. The University will also inform participants of the results and any decisions relating to measures taken in response to the course evaluations. The results will be made available to the students (HF 1:14).
Interim rules
If a course is no longer offered, or has undergone significant changes, the students must be offered two opportunities for re-examination based on the syllabus that applied at the time of registration, for a period of one year after the changes have been implemented.
Additional information
If a student has a Learning support decision, the examiner has the right to provide the student with an adapted test, or to allow the student to take the exam in a different format. The syllabus is a translation of a Swedish source text.
