Bachelor degree in Peace and Conflict Studies or related field. Proficiency in English equivalent to English course B in Swedish secondary schools.
At least 30 higher education credits within Global Political Studies, one-year master programme.

This course forms part of Global Political Studies, one-year master’s programme, 60 higher education credits.
Course contents
The master thesis concludes the one-year master programme in Global Political Studies. The student conducts a minor research assignment and writes a dissertation. In the normal case this is done individually. Teaching in method is included in the course.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
On completion of the course the student shall
- demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of a central research issue within Peace and Conflict Studies; and
- demonstrate advanced knowledge of research methods relevant for the study conducted in the master thesis.
Skills and abilities
On completion of the course the student shall
- demonstrate an in-depth ability to identify, formulate and critically examine theoretically and methodologically complex problems within a set time-frame;
- demonstrate an advanced ability to analyze and evaluate information on a scientific basis;
- demonstrate an advanced ability to communicate, in writing as well as orally, conclusions of their own work as well as that of others; and
- demonstrate the skills required to participate in research and development work.
Judgement and approach
On completion of the course the student shall
- demonstrate an ability to identify their need of further knowledge within the major field of study, and to take responsibility for developing their knowledge; and
- demonstrate in-depth ability to adopt a multi-disciplinary stance.
Learning activities
Learning activities are mainly in the form of individual studies within the topic chosen. Teaching is in the form of individual supervision and seminars on method. The students must be prepared to present their work in writing or orally at presentation seminars throughout the course.
Assessment
The student will write a master thesis and participate at an opposition seminar. At the seminar the student will act as commentator on another student’s work and respond to comments on her/his own work. The student’s achievement is assessed based on the thesis and the performance at the opposition seminar. In the assessment the following is taken into account: The student’s knowledge and understanding of the issues investigated in the thesis and the student’s ability to critically analyse, evaluate and process relevant problems are all taken into account in the assessment.

Determined individually in cooperation with supervisor.
Course evaluation
All students are given the oppourtunity to give their comments at the end of the course, in writing or orally. A compilation of the results will be available on the faculty computer net.
Student participation is in the form of course meetings.
