Course contents

The purpose of this course is that the students should produce an absolutely fresh research review of the different fields gender and sport, sport science and gender science.

During the course students are expected to search for knowledge about gender and sport through scientific journals that include these fields. To enable this kind of review scientific articles in international journals are highly important. The article search is expected to comprise of both sport science journals and gender science journals. The journals are to be studied over a specific period of time and the student will analyze the content in the scientific journals in the intersection of the fields. The course will be terminated by a longer essay where the review is presented.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student will be able to

  • describe and reflect upon women, gender and sports through an international perspective and through international comparisons
  • describe and discuss the relationship between sport science and gender science
  • do research and describe and analyze the content in scientific journals and within a specific field in relation to sports and gender
  • write a research review

Learning activities

The course can consist of varied learning activities such as web based discussion forums and based student feedback.

Assessment

All the learning outcomes will be examined individually and in one written examination.

The criteria for the different grading levels are clarified by the examiner at the start of the course.

Literature of relevance for the research review will be added. Articles and relevant literature will be 1500 pages in total.

Course evaluation

Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. The University will compile and summarise the results of course evaluations. The University will also inform participants of the results and any decisions relating to measures taken in response to the course evaluations. The results will be made available to the students (HF 1:14).

Interim rules

If a course is no longer offered, or has undergone significant changes, the students must be offered two opportunities for re-examination based on the syllabus that applied at the time of registration, for a period of one year after the changes have been implemented.

Additional information

If a student has a Learning support decision, the examiner has the right to provide the student with an adapted test, or to allow the student to take the exam in a different format.
