The purpose of the course is for the student to develop understanding and knowledge of different types of organisations' environmental and strategical work in order to identify, based on knowledge of nature and society's processes and technical systems, the environmental problems organisations need to take into account in order to achieve sustainable ecological, social, cultural and economic development.
The course introduces the student to organisations' environmental and strategical work by, among other things, by including:
- Fundamentals of Organizational Theory
- Basic Business Administration
- Project Management
- Governance models
- General Driving Forces for Organisations in the Environmental Field
- Environmental Strategies
- Climate Strategies with Focus on Climate Adaptation in an Urban Setting
- Sustainability Analysis
Knowledge and understanding
After completion of the education, the student should be able to:
1. account for the various ways organisations are organized and fuction especially from the perspective of business and governance
2. account for the relationship between business enterprise and sustainable development’s ecological, social, cultural and economic aspects
3 . identify and account for different driving forces in the environmental field and how they affect organisations
Competence and skills
After completion of the education, the student should be able to:
4. to seek to acquire and assess knowledge about the organisation's environmental and strategical work, and to reflexive and critically use the acquired information
5. analyse an organisation's relationship with the environment and formulate proposals how it can change in the direction of a more sustainable business
6. conduct a sustainability and/or climate analysis of an organisation based on scientific knowledge of the nature and societal processes of the environment
7. produce written reports, which meet the requirements for scientific formalities and good language treatment
8. make an oral presentation of their student paper and discuss their findings with student peers
Judgement and approach
After completion of the education, the student should be able to:
9. reflect on and critically relate to the research, quality and relevance of both their own work and other environmental science research on sustainable societal development and the ethical aspects
10. identify their own need for further knowledge and ability to develop their skills in identifying, analysing and assessing environmental problems from an organisational perspective
11. reflect independently about their own work and take a stand on the results of this and reflect independently about the development of the knowledge and take responsibility for the use of the results of this knowledge
The course learning activities are based on lectures, seminars, individual work and work in groups. In addition to the scheduled teaching time, the student is expected to work independently and in a group with information retrieval and knowledge acquisition.

For the final grade pass on the whole course (7,5hp), all examinations have to be passed with at leat an E or G. Course grade is based on the individual written paper.

Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. The University will compile and summarise the results of course evaluations. The University will also inform participants of the results and any decisions relating to measures taken in response to the course evaluations. If a course is no longer offered, or has undergone significant changes, the students must be offered two opportunities for re-examination based on the syllabus that applied at the time of registration, for a period of one year after the changes have been implemented
If a student has a Learning support decision, the examiner has the right to provide the student with an adapted test, or to allow the student to take the exam in a different format.
