Course contents
The purpose of this course is that the student will develop and deepen its knowledge on the significance of gender and sports as well as gender and sport from an international perspective. Furthermore, the student will be able to use gender theory to analyze gender and sports. The student will also develop its academic writing.
During the first part of the course gender and sport in relation to participation and international perspectives are studied. During the second half of the course, the student will concentrate on an athletes’ sporting life in order to analyze their destiny in relation to the prevailing gender order.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student will be able to
- describe and problematize participation and sport through international comparisons from a gender perspective
- analyze sport with gender theory
- reflect on an individual´s life destiny in relation to sport and societal gender structures.
Learning activities
The course consists of a variation of learning activities that can include lectures, seminars, web-based discussions and studies on your own. The course depends on active participation where the students contribute with their own experiences, reflections and perspectives. The students are also expected to take own initiatives regarding learning activities.
Assessment
All the learning outcomes will be examined by Oral presentation and two Written Examinations.
The criteria for Pass and Pass with Distinction are clarified by the examiner at the start of the course.

Course evaluation
Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. The University will compile and summarise the results of course evaluations. The University will also inform participants of the results and any decisions relating to measures taken in response to the course evaluations. The results will be made available to the students (HF 1:14).
Interim rules
If a course is no longer offered, or has undergone significant changes, the students must be offered two opportunities for re-examination based on the syllabus that applied at the time of registration, for a period of one year after the changes have been implemented.
Additional information
