Course contents
The course aims to produce a writing student who can balance practice and theory, creative and critical thinking, as well as the academic and the vocational.
Students will work across genres (fiction, poetry, literary non-fiction). The course concludes with the submission of a portfolio containing the student’s work for the term. The course recognizes that good reading is at the heart of good writing. Reading broadly in all genres is thus emphasized. Peer reviewing is at the heart of the course, and is also seen as a central element of the own creative process. The course also provides a brief introduction to the business of publishing.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student:
- understands more deeply the workings of a literary genres;
- is able to balance theory and practice within their writing;
- is able to use their knowledge of the basic practices involved in getting work published;
- can write creatively at a high beginning to intermediate level;
- can, with greater independence, edit their own writing and the writing of others;
- can revise and compile a meaningful portfolio of their own work and examine it self-critically

Assessment
The student is assessed based on the submission of a portfolio of texts written and revised over the course the semester.

Course evaluation
Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. Interim rules
