The course is included in the main field Interaction design
and is a compulsory part of the master programmes TAINE and TAIND Interaction design, master’s programme (One and Two year).
Course objectives
In Thesis Project I students draw upon the knowledge, skills and values gained in the education to produce a substantial, independent scholarly work at an advanced level in the area of interaction design.
Course contents
The course consists of an interaction design project at advanced level in a topic chosen by the student. Students develop their project with the assistance of a supervisor, culminating in a written thesis and oral defence.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student will be able to :
1.Knowledge and understanding within interaction design, including specialized knowledge in a part of the field, advanced methodological knowledge, and insight into applicable current research.
2. The ability to search out, collect, evaluate, and critically interpret relevant information in a problem and to critically discuss complex phenomena, issues, and situations.
3. The ability to independently identify and formulate questions and solve problems, performing tasks within a given time limit.
4. The ability to clearly account for and discuss conclusions and the knowledge and arguments underpinning these conclusions, in both written and spoken dialogue with various groups.
5. The ability to write and structure a coherent thesis-length scholarly text at an advanced level in the field of interaction design, including proper referencing and scholarly apparatus.
6. The ability to make judgments within interaction design considering relevant academic, societal, and ethical aspects.
7. The ability to identify need of further knowledge and to assume responsibility for knowledge development.
Learning activities
Students are expected to independently plan and carry out a thesis project in the domain of interaction design. Supervision can happen in groups or individually
Students will prepare and submit a written thesis (including any supplementary media). After this, students will orally present and defend their work in a seminar.
Assessment
When grading, the examiner will consider, as a whole, the submitted written thesis (and any supplementary media) and the oral presentation/discussion. There is a single formal assessment of 15 credits which assesses all learning outcomes. Demonstrating all learning outcomes will confer a pass (‘G’), otherwise a fail (‘U’) is conferred.
Three opportunities for examination are offered during the academic year. Students who have not finished the course, have the opportunity to take part in examinations the next time the course is offered. Under such circumstances, assignments are carried out according to the literature and assignments that are valid during the time the examination is carried out.

Course evaluation
Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. The University will compile and summarise the results of course evaluations. The University will also inform participants of the results and any decisions relating to measures taken in response to the course evaluations. The results will be made available to the students (HF 1:14).
Interim rules
If a course is no longer offered, or has undergone significant changes, the students must be offered two opportunities for re-examination based on the syllabus that applied at the time of registration, for a period of one year after the changes have been implemented.
Additional information
If a student has a Learning support decision, the examiner has the right to provide the student with an adapted test, or to allow the student to take the exam in a different format. The syllabus is a translation of a Swedish source text.
