Entry requirements
General entry requirements: first-cycle qualification comprising at least 180 credits.
Specific entry requirements:
at least three years of documented experience of teaching at higher education level, or working with skills development in at an equivalent organisation (for example, Swedish Customs, the Swedish Police Authority, Swedish Armed Forces), or successful completion of courses comprising at least 60 credits in one of the following subjects: Education pedagogy, educational sciences, work with teaching and education or other subject in the behavioural sciences, in addition to English 6.

Organisation
The one-year Master’s programme in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education offers teaching staff active in higher education to deepen their knowledge in the research field of higher education. The programme can be linked to the student’s individual teaching activities and organisation, and enable them to develop their skills through the use of scholarly methods.
The programme intends to educate teachers for universities and higher education institutions and provide them with the relevant skills to teach students, and so they will be able to contribute to sustainable development in their future activities and organisations. The programme provides in-depth knowledge of learning theories, teaching methods, and student learning in higher education. Successful completion of the programme will create the foundations for several career paths both within and outside of academia.
Specialisation
Teaching and learning in higher education addresses how adult students acquire knowledge within the framework of higher education. The programme addresses matters regarding approaches to teaching, and methods for teaching at university or higher education level. As part of the programme, students will learn how to identify central concepts within the field of adult education, and present central aspects of research into adult learning. Theories of adult learning and didactics for adults in higher education link to life-long learning to form the core of the main field of study. Academic leadership, teaching environments, collaboration and professional development are central concepts that characterise the programme's main field of study.
Methods
Group work, writing and peer-response can be combined with lectures and seminars on campus. These may be live-streamed; hence students may have the option to participate on site or online.
The extensive diversity of experiences and perspectives will be utilised, and collegial discussions and exchanges of experiences will be central to the course. Methods will be chosen in consultation with participants, in order to maximise the utilisation of experiences and apply newly-acquired skills in teaching and learning for higher education.
Throughout the programme, there will be the chance to discuss career options, for example in meetings with representatives from various professions both within and outside of academia.
Content
The one-year Master’s programme in teaching and learning in higher education is a total of 60 credits, of which at least 45 credits are to be in teaching and learning in higher education, and comprise an independent project related to teaching and learning in higher education worth 15 credits.

Qualitative targets
Second-cycle courses and study programmes shall be based fundamentally on the knowledge acquired by students during first-cycle courses and study programmes, or its equivalent.
Second-cycle courses and study programmes shall involve the acquisition of specialist knowledge, competence and skills in relation to first-cycle courses and study programmes, and in addition to the requirements for first-cycle courses and study programmes shall:
- further develop the ability of students to integrate and make autonomous use of their knowledge,
- develop the students' ability to deal with complex phenomena, issues and situations, and
- develop the students' potential for professional activities that demand considerable autonomy, or for research and development work.

Objectives for the Degree of Master (One-year)
Knowledge and understanding
For a Degree of Master (one-year) the student shall
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the main field of study, including both an overview of the field and specialised knowledge in certain areas of the field as well as insight into current research and development work, and
- demonstrate specialised methodological knowledge in the main field of study.
Competence and skills
For a Degree of Master (one-year) the student shall
- demonstrate the ability to integrate knowledge and analyse, assess and deal with complex phenomena, issues and situations even with limited information,
— demonstrate the ability to identify and formulate issues autonomously as well as to plan and, using appropriate methods, undertake advanced tasks within predetermined time frames,
— demonstrate the ability in speech and writing to report clearly and discuss his or her conclusions and the knowledge and arguments on which they are based in dialogue with different audiences, and
- demonstrate the skills required for participation in research and development work or employment in some other qualified capacity.
Judgement and approach
For a Degree of Master (one-year) the student shall
- demonstrate the ability to make assessments in the main field of study informed by relevant disciplinary, social and ethical issues and also to demonstrate awareness of ethical aspects of research and development work,
- demonstrate insight into the possibilities and limitations of research, its role in society and the responsibility of the individual for how it is used, and
- demonstrate the ability to identify the personal need for further knowledge and take responsibility for his or her ongoing learning.

Upon completion of the programme, the requirements for the Degree of Master (60 credits) will be fulfilled.
Malmö University will issue a degree certificate upon application. The degree certificate will state the titles:

Degree of Master of Arts (60 credits) with a Major in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education
