The course is included in the main field of Cultural Studies and can be included in the degree requirements for a Master's degree in Cultural Studies.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is for students to develop expertise in a field of their own choice, with the aid of supervisors. Students should also develop their competences in conducting an autonomous, critical and academic work on master level.
Course contents
A scientific study is conducted in the course, which is reported in the form of an academic paper. Selection of the problem, methodology and theoretical framework and the creation of empiricism is carried out in consultation with the supervisor. The student must carry out an in-depth study of some part of the cultural studies field in the degree project. The student must also critically and constructively evaluate and discuss the degree projects written by others.

Knowledge and understanding
After completing the course students shall:
1) demonstrate in-depth knowledge of research issues in Cultural studies and their relation to a methodological and scientific field.
Competence and skills
After completing the course students shall:
2) be able to design and carry out a scientific thesis
3) demonstrate the ability to search for, collect, evaluate and critically interpret relevant literature and material within a chosen research topic
4) be able to critically discuss phenomena, issues and situations
5) be able to identify, formulate and solve problems
6) have the ability verbally and in writing to describe the problem area and proposed solutions for the target group in the academy
Judgement and approach
After completing the course students shall:
7) demonstrate the ability to make assessments in relation to relevant disciplinary, social and ethical aspects.
8) demonstrate the ability to identify the need for further knowledge
Learning activities
Teaching consists of autonomous work by students, lectures, practical exercises, seminars and supervision.

Course evaluation
The University provides all students who are participating in, or have completed, a course to express their experiences and views on the course through a course evaluation which is organized at the end of the course. The university will collate the course evaluations and provide information about their results and any actions prompted by them. The results shall be made available to the students. (HF 1:14).
Interim rules
When a course is no longer given, or the contents have been radically changed, the student has the right to re-take the examination, which will be given twice during a one year period, according to the syllabus which was valid at the time of registration.
