Elective course.
The internship covers at least 8 and maximum 10 weeks of internship, which need to be completed during term time. The internship can take two different forms: an on-site internship or a project-based internship.
In an on-site internship, the student themselves must find an internship based at a company/sector of a company, active within computer-based information systems. An internship programme is established by the student in consultation with the company and the teacher responsible for this course. The student must keep a logbook during their internship in which the supervisor at the company checks that what the student accomplishes during their time as an intern, corresponds to what has been laid out in the scheduled internship programme.
In a project-based internship, the students form smaller groups that plan and carry out a project using computer-based information systems in collaboration with one or several companies.
After the internship period is completed, the student must write a report about the experience to be presented and discussed at a seminar. Part of the report is dedicated to the student’s own reflections regarding their own learning curve, reflections which must be viewed within the framework of the learning outcomes of the course as a whole.

To obtain a passing grade the student must be able to:
- show in-depth knowledge and understanding of how to work practically with issues regarding computer-based information systems.
Skills and abilities
To obtain a passing grade the student must be able to:
- demonstrate the ability to plan and complete an internship or project-based internship in collaboration with a company or organisation
- demonstrate the ability to apply their theoretical knowledge of IT in a relevant organisation or company
- demonstrate the ability to present a relevant theme or issue of their choosing related to computer-based information systems which have been relevant and in focus during their internship
- demonstrate the ability to report and present their experience, verbally and in writing, within the given timeframe.
Judgement and approach
To obtain a passing grade the student must be able to:
- demonstrate the ability to reflect critically on how computer science expertise is applied in practice
- demonstrate the ability to reflect over their own learning curve and the personal experience and knowledge they have gained during their internship, as well as how a scientific mindset can contribute to personal knowledge growth.
Practical work consisting of tasks related to development or handling of IT applications.
Seminars.
The internship forms a basis for theoretical reflection linked to the education’s earlier courses.
The course is carried out with the support of the course teacher and with the help of a contact person in the chosen organisation.
The student’s performance during internship is graded based on the following:
- Internship project plan, 1 credit (UG).
- Written report which includes documentation of the internship period, 14 credits (UG).
To obtain a passing grade for the course, all in-depth presentations/reports must have been given and been awarded a pass grade.
The student, in consultation with the teacher responsible for the course, selects relevant literature of their own choosing based on the theme specified in the written report.
Malmö University allows students who attend or have completed a course the possibility to present their experience of and opinions about that course, through a course evaluation which is supplied by the University. The University collates these course evaluations as well as informs of the results gained from them and any eventual decision regarding measures that need to be taken as a result of these course evaluations. The results are made available to the students. (HF 1:14).
When a course is no longer given, or the contents have been radically changed, the student has the right to re-take the examination, within the span of one year from the time of the changes having occurred; the examination will be given twice during this one-year period, according to the syllabus which was valid at the time of registration.
If a student has a Learning support decision, the examiner has the right to provide the student with an adapted test, or to allow the student to take the exam in a different format.
