Course contents

The purpose of this course is that the students should produce a research review within the subject of gender and sport from a sports and gender science perspective.

During the course, students seek knowledge about gender and sport by using international scientific journals covering both fields. In order to do this, searching for scientific articles in international journals is of great importance. The search is expected to include both sports science journals and gender science journals.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student will be able to

• describe and reflect upon women, gender and sports through an international perspective and through international comparisons
• discuss and problematize the relationship between sport science and gender science
• investigate and analyze a chosen topic within the field of sports and gender
• relate research on sport and gender to adequate examples and own experiences

Learning activities

The course can consist of varied learning activities such as web based discussion forums and feedback.

Assessment

All the learning outcomes will be examined by writing an Individual Research Overview.

Grading criteria are communicated by the course leader at the start of the course.

Literature of relevance for the research review will be added. Articles and relevant literature will be 1500 pages in total.

Course evaluation

Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. The University will compile and summarise the results of course evaluations. The University will also inform participants of the results and any decisions relating to measures taken in response to the course evaluations. The results will be made available to the students (HF 1:14).

Interim rules

If a course is no longer offered, or has undergone significant changes, the students must be offered two opportunities for re-examination based on the syllabus that applied at the time of registration, for a period of one year after the changes have been implemented.

Additional information

If a student has a Learning support decision, the examiner has the right to provide the student with an adapted test, or to allow the student to take the exam in a different format.
